Hi! I'm Jude :)

Hi Ignition team,I’m Jude. I’m from Ontario, Canada, and I’m an IT person, robotics mentor, Computer Science student, occasional website builder, and generally someone who likes figuring out how things work.Technology has been a pretty consistent part of my life for a long time. I started out as the person friends and family would ask to fix things, and somehow that turned into actual jobs. Since then, I’ve worked in university IT, nuclear technology, at Qualcomm, and now in a multi-site IT support role.The part of IT I enjoy most is troubleshooting. I like taking something vague like “it doesn’t work” and slowly narrowing it down until I understand what is actually happening. It feels a little like detective work. I also like the human side of support. Fixing the problem matters, but so does making the person on the other end feel like someone is actually paying attention and trying to help.Outside of work, I mentor a FIRST Robotics team. I help students with programming, troubleshooting, GitHub, control systems, and whatever other technical problem shows up that day. I really enjoy teaching because it forces me to understand things well enough to explain them simply.I also have two dogs, Obi and Leia, named after Obi-Wan and Princess Leia. They’re a pretty big part of my life and will probably make an appearance in my video if they cooperate (update: they did not). If they don’t, that is probably a more accurate representation of life with them anyway.I also like building things outside of work. I’ve worked on personal tech projects, self-hosted servers, and small websites for local businesses. I tend to get interested in something, go too far down the rabbit hole, and come out the other side knowing much more about it than I originally planned.A few things that matter to me are curiosity, being dependable, treating people well, and continuing to learn. I don’t expect myself to know everything immediately, but I do expect myself to figure things out, ask for help when I need it, and follow through.My favorite joke:Why do divers go off the boat backwards?Because if they went forwards, they’d still be on the boat.And because you specifically asked about AI: yes, I used AI to help with this letter. My process was basically to type out my own ideas, bullet points, rough paragraphs, and the things I actually wanted to say, then use AI to refine the wording, improve the flow, and make everything more coherent. I also used it to catch grammar issues and help organize the final version. The actual stories, opinions, joke, dogs, and personality are mine. I treated AI more like an editor than a ghostwriter.I also have to say, I appreciate how different this application is. It’s a little strange, but in a good way. It feels like you’re actually trying to learn something about the person behind the resume, which is much more interesting than pretending everyone has dreamed of answering support tickets since childhood.Thanks for taking the time to read this.Jude
